Learn to referee recreational SOccer
SCSA and GSE are looking for referees! Open to anyone age 12 and up.

Session 1
July 7, 8, 10
6:00 PM – 8:30 PM
Benefits

Pay Scale
- Youngest age groups: Start at $20 per game
- Older age groups: up to $50 per game
- Referees can typically work multiple games per day in coordination with the Referee Assignor.
Age Requirement
- Must be 12 years old by August 15
- Adults are also welcome
Games
- Fall season begins in August
- Games are played Saturdays and Sundays
- Locations include Anderson Park District fields
Flexible Schedule
You choose the games you want to referee.

Session 2
July 27, 28, 29
6:00 PM – 8:30 PM
2026 Clinic Details
Each session runs for 3 nights, T,Th,F or M,T,W, from 6:00–8:30 PM.
Each new referee must attend all 3 nights of either session.
Class will be held in person at:
Anderson Center Basement
7850 Five Mile Rd
No online option is available.
Class Format
Each session will be a mixture of:
- Classroom instruction
- Field instruction
- Small-group practice drills
Topics include:
- The Laws of the Game (Law 1 through Law 17)
- How referees facilitate each law
- Pre-game responsibilities
- Checking players in
- How to get games
- Handling difficult situations
Participants will also practice many common referee responsibilities so they gain field experience before officiating games.
Cost
There is a nominal fee of $30.
In exchange, referees will receive:
- Referee whistle
- Red/yellow cards
- Certification patch and Velcro
Concussion Training Requirement
Referees are required to complete an online Concussion Training course and bring proof of completion to the first referee class.
What to Bring on Day 1
- Completed Concussion Certificate

- Cash or check payable to SCSA
- No Venmo accepted
- Pencil or pen and something hard to write on
- Gym shoes
Please arrive 10–15 minutes early on the first day.
