Teams and games

  • No. SCSA is a recreational league — boys of all skill levels are welcome. If your son wants to play, he has a spot.

  • Players are grouped by age and school first, using your son's public elementary school as a reference point. We aim for evenly matched teams across the league, so we can't always accommodate requests to be placed with a specific friend — but we try and you're welcome to ask in the comments when you register!

  • The game scales with age. The youngest players (Dribblers) play a simple 4v4 format with no goalkeeper and no throw-ins on a small field. Older divisions progressively add players, positions, and rules, up to a full 11v11 game played under high school rules. (Link to Rules Guide PDF)

  • Games are played on Anderson Park District fields — Clear Creek, Riverside, Kellogg, and Veterans Park.

    • Spring season: 5 games, played mostly on Sundays

    • Fall season: Dribblers and Trappers play 8 games; all other divisions play 9 or 10. Most games are on Saturdays, with some Saturday/Sunday doubleheaders in the first two weeks. The season ends with a tournament on the final Saturday and Sunday.

  • Each coach sets their own practice day, time, and location — your coach will reach out before the season starts. SCSA uses elementary school fields in Anderson Township and West Clermont County, as well as Anderson Park District fields.

  • All players receive a team jersey as part of their registration fee. Aside from the jersey, we recommend:

    • Shin guards (required)

    • Soccer socks that fully cover the shin guards.

    • Soccer cleats or gym shoes

Note: Metal cleats and baseball cleats with a front-center cleat are not allowed.

    • Black shorts

  • The fields are managed by Anderson Parks. They maintain a Rainout Line on their website, a hotline at (513) 443-3003, or download the free “Rainout Line” app (search "Anderson Parks" for instructions).

registration

    • Spring season: Registration opens in January (verify current dates on the calendar)

    • Fall season: Registration opens in May (verify current dates on the calendar)

  • It's the best way to identify your neighborhood, which is how we organize teams. If your son attends a private school, just let us know your closest public elementary school.

  • That's the default — we try to keep teams together as much as possible. That being said, for Fall 2026 age groups are changing and all teams will experience some changes. This will help align players better to their school years and classmates.

If you'd like to request a team change, note it in the comments when you register. Your son will enter the general player pool and be assigned to a team that needs players.

  • Not always. Spring rosters are sometimes adjusted because not every family or coach participates in both seasons. Additionally, when players age into a new division, teams are reorganized — some players move up, others stay behind, and new teams are formed.

  • Yes, in most cases. We'll issue a refund for injuries, relocation, or a spot on a high school or select team. Requests made before registration closes are almost always approved. Email president@scsa-soccer.org with your son's name and the reason for the request.

  • Consider carefully the pros and cons of select soccer and if it’s right for your family. There are many great select programs in Cincinnati. SCSA is affiliated with Cincinnati United Southeast. Check their website for tryout schedules. You're also welcome to explore other select programs — just note that select leagues may use different age cutoff dates than rec soccer.

  • No. League rules don't allow players to participate in both programs simultaneously in the same season.

  • High school rules prohibit players from participating in another league while on the school team. If he doesn't make the cut, he's welcome to continue with SCSA. If he does — congratulations! Request a refund for the rec soccer fee.
